British weather is famous for its uncertainty, but it is certain that it includes a fair amount of rain. In the early 1800’s, Charles Macintosh (without the “K”), a chemist, patented the process for making waterproof fabrics by spreading rubber on cotton, which brought the arrival of the Macintosh raincoat.
The Mackintosh name (with the “K”, same family) is synonymous with rainwear in the UK, and over the years “Mac” has become the generic name for a raincoat.
Manufactured through a combination of new technology and traditional techniques, each Mac is made to order at their factory in Scotland, by skilled craftsmen who have spent years perfecting the techniques required to make a true Mackintosh.
The 46¨ long Mac has a balraglan collar, full raglan sleeves, and an easier body, all symbols of a classic English walking coat. Complete with back center vent and storm tab, it has pass through pockets and two book pockets and is finished with signature Macintosh logo buttons.
The coat, made with yarn dyed cotton fabrics (Yarn dying gives richer colors and garments that are more resistant to fading.), is available in British Tan, with a maple tartan (rich olives, reds and golds) zip out liner of 100% wool. The lining is a rayon Bemberg fabric.
